Simple ways to be more mindful

Mindfulness is your first step towards living a more peaceful, harmonious and successful life. It is the magical tool that gives life to your desires too. Also mindfulness is not something difficult to achieve, in fact there are thousands of simple ways to be more mindful in everyday life.

So have you been trying to be more mindful lately?

Here I am going to give you 22 simple ways to be more mindful.

Let’s start.

1) Feeling the heartbeat

The moment you open your eyes in the morning, pay attention to your body. Try feeling your heartbeat for a few moments.

2) Mindful breaths

Sit in a comfortable chair and close your eyes for 5 minutes. Focus on your inhale and exhale.

3) In the shower

When you take a shower, feel the water splashing on your skin and take a breath of gratitude that you have clean water available because not everybody on this planet has that luxury.

4) Looking at the mirror

Observe and appreciate your reflection in the mirror. Focus on what you like about your face rather than what you don’t like.

5) Sensing the food

When your food is in front of you, feel its aroma, appreciate its colors.

6) Eating in peace

Make sure you are not distracted by tech devices like your computer, tablet or mobile while eating your food. So that you can direct all your attention to the task at hand.

7) Eating slowly

Eat slowly and mindfully. Slowly chew each morsel of food and swallow it patiently before putting another bite in your mouth.

8) Blessing the water

Before drinking water hold the glass in your hands, close your eyes and think of something positive. Feel the positive energy transferring from your hands to the water. Now drink the water.

9) Stepping out of home

When you step out of your home, observe the surroundings. Look at the roads, the cars, the trees, the people. Take a few moments to mindfully observe your surroundings.

10) Take a flower

Take a flower and smell it for a few moments. Let the smell and color tantalize your senses. Appreciate the beauty of the flower.

11) One thing at a time

Try doing one thing at a time and divert all your attention to it rather than multitasking.

12) Listen carefully

Cultivate the habit of being an active listener. When somebody is talking to you, give all your attention to them. Be present with them not just physically but mentally as well.

13) Think before speaking

Make sure the words you say are coherent, meaningful and positive. Learn the art of articulating your thoughts effectively.

14) Meditate daily

Meditate everyday even if it is for 10 minutes. Meditation is the tool that clears your mind off junk thoughts so that you can be more present in the moment.

15) Walk mindfully

Notice the steps you take. Notice how your feet feel inside the shoes with each step or how the floor feels beneath your feet if you are not wearing any shoes.

16) Sit in nature

Everyday sit with nature for at least a few minutes. Observe the trees, the chirping birds, the color of the grass…

17) Take few deep breaths

Whenever you get the chance, take 5 deep breaths that go all the way to your belly.

18) Feel gratitude for your body

Focus on what an incredibly powerful machine your body is. Be in awe of all that it does for you. Feel thankful that you have a perfectly functioning body.

19) Be in sync with the environment

Be mindful which acts or behaviors of yours might be negatively impacting the nature around you. For example, using single-use plastics, throwing trash around or wasting electricity.

Try living more harmoniously with the environment.

20) Talking on phone

When you are about to talk to someone important to you, set an intention beforehand. The intention may sound like, “I am now ready for a meaningful conversation that would add value to the lives of both of us”.

21) Leave the past behind

Don’t waste time on what happened in the past. Never think about the past. Present moment is all you have. Cherish it fully.

22) Gratitude journal

Every night before going to bed write down 5 things you’re grateful for that happened to you that day. Try coming up with 5 new things everyday. By doing this everyday, your mind will become programmed to look out for things to be thankful for in your daily life.
